Poonam Pandey's Nasha

Poonam Pandey, the name itself adds dollops of "Bold" quotient to anything. The starlet has been in and around the filmy scene for quite some time and except adding sensationalism via her twitter handle by announcing to shed her clothes every now and then, the controversial babe hasn't had much to offer until now. Finally after a long while of Pandey being around her debut film Nasha makes it to the theaters. We tell you what the film is all about. Nasha is the story of an 18-year-old boy Sahil (Shivam) who falls hopelessly in love with a 25-year-old woman Anita (Poonam Pandey), a teacher of his college. Sahil cannot have, but at the same time cannot prevent his desire for her. And, as is the case with desires unfulfilled, they turn into obsessions. So that, in the course of coping with his unrequited love, the boy requites a lot more. This isn't the first time around for filmmaker Amit Saxena to deal with an explicit theme. The director debuted with the controversial John Abraham and Bipasha Basu starrer Jism. Hence despite the long gap you expect the filmmaker to have a strong hand at handling a story of juvenile infatuation sensitively. However, what the filmmaker does it presents a highly in-your-face drama.

Pattathu Yaanai-Vishal Comedy Entertainer

Pandian, of course, makes "Pattathu Yaanai" a much better action-comedy than several other films of recent past in the same genre. He doesn't fail to entertain us at regular intervals by reminding how well can Santhanam be used even in the most serious scenes. Humour is also derived from the villains towards the end and this works in the film's favour because few more action sequences might have bored the audiences. Pandian understood the film is a comedy entertainer at heart and even though the 'mass factor' overshadows it, we still see momentary spurts of humour throughout. If there's one thing that makes this film a terrible watch, then it definitely is the romantic angle featuring Vishal and Aishwarya. There is absolutely no soul in their relationship and needless to say, we're forced to see an actress making a bad debut. Aishwarya is stone-faced in most scenes and looks artificial with more makeup. In all fairness to her, it was a useless role that was sabotaged by her own bad performance. I was glad that the makers didn't include one final song to celebrate the triumph of their relationship after Vishal beats up all the baddies in the climax. Vishal was good and showed much maturity in his performance while proving he is good at comedy too. I haven't enjoyed watching Santhanam before as much as I did in this film. He wasbrilliant and proves it's the director who messes up his roles in other films where he is mostly seen mouthing dialogues that are considered toilet humour. "Pattathu Yaanai" is an underestimated film that delivers beyond expectations, barring the romantic escapades of Vishal and Aishwarya. You should totally watch it.

Singam-2 Mass Surya

The film opens with a quick recap of "Singam", and now Duraisingam, who has resigned from his job, is working as a NCC leader in a private school in Tuticorin, where he moonlights as an undercover cop to bust illegal activities happening on the coast. Further investigation reveals that under the control of Danny, drugs are being imported into the town and those helping him in this business are Thangaraj, Bhai and Sagayam. It is with the help of the trio that Danny has been importing drugs worth crores of rupees. How does Duraisingam bring down the empire of Danny, and seal all his illegal activities that he has been doing for years forms the rest of the story. If you can sit through the 165-minute-long film watching one man running all through Tuticorin in the name of justice and in between grooving to five songs, then you might like "Singam 2". However, if you're expecting a racy, edge-of-the-seat cop flick, this is not your film. There is plenty of action, but it just gets too much after a point of time. Why would a policeman not shoot at baddies who are ready to ambush his family and instead fight? This is exactly why the film runs for nearly three hours when it could've been easily reduced by a good half an hour. "Singam 2" is definitely bigger, but it never gets better in the process of entertaining its viewers. It has a storyline that could keep you hooked but what doesn't work in the favour of the film is the presence of too many characters and a weak screenplay. The initial premise of the film doesn't get converted into a story worth lauding. Even though Suriya shines in his role, there is hardly any noticeable contribution from the rest of the cast. In fact, most characters hardly have any purpose. One such role is that of the chief minister (CM), played by veteran director K. Vishwanath. Hari directs "Singam 2" without a soul. He desperately tries to make the sequel a better film than its prequel, but eventually fails in the process. Devi Sri Prasad's music is passe. The background score misses energy.

Mariyaan Great Experiance by the Audience

Maryan is loved and longed by Panimalar (Parvathy), but sadly her feelings are not reciprocated. The more Maryan tries to keep Pani away from him, the closer she tries to get. This eventually leads to Maryan falling for Pani. Panimalar is caught in unfortunate circumstances and to support her financially, Maryan is forced to take up employment on contract basis for two years in Sudan. He successfully completes his tenure and packs bags in jubilation to return to his ladylove, but tragedy strikes in the form of Sudanese terrorists, who end up kidnapping Maryan and two of his co-workers and demand money for their freedom. After 21 days in captivity, Maryan escapes and runs for his life. Will he able to meet Panimalar again or not form the rest of the story. Playing a character suffering is not new for Dhanush, who has played such characters several times on the screen. However, what differentiates "Maryan" from his other films is that Dhanush has an equally strong co-star Parvathy, who at times looks too intelligent in her role, in the film. Typically, films starring Dhanush turn out to be a one-man show, but director Bharatbala deserves credit for giving us a stronger female character. It's not for the underdog you root here, it's for Parvathy, who believes in Maryan forever. The first half of the film is a tribute to love. I haven't seen a better build up of a love story in the Tamil cinema, so poignantly touching, in a long time. The romance between Dhanush and Parvathy comes alive on screen with a hint of charisma and passion. A fisherman's strength is in the ocean reference works brilliantly in favour of the film. You appreciate it only when you reach the climax. In that instant, you want to cheer for the director for developing his lead characters flawlessly. "Maryan" is technically brilliant. Be it the scenes in the fishing hamlet or in Sudan, where even the driest desert looks stunning, these scenes never fail to dazzle you every instant.

Neram malayalam Movie

In 'Neram', Alphonse Puthran tries to infuse some fresh imagination into a been-there-done-that scenario and succeeds in parts. The notions hold little promise, but the adrenaline driven execution lights up things quite a bit.Mathew (Nivin Pauly) is an engineer who has lost his job in Chennai on account of a very peculiar bombing. He marries off his sister, borrowing money from notorious money lender Vatti Raja (Simhaa), and months later when unable to pay him back, finds the goon hot on his heels. Too add to his misery, his love Jeena (Nazriya Nazim) has decided to elope with him, and her dad Johny Kutty (Lalu Alex) has lodged a complaint against him at the local police station. The posters did claim that this was a film that had nothing new to it. And yes, amen to that. It's a story that is as old as cinema itself, and the struggler protagonist juggling between a love life, financial constraints and a threat to his own life are all that we have seen so many, many times before. So the expected excuse would be that the treatment is different. But with so many Tamil, and even some Malayalam films churned out in the same format, even the treatment is nothing much to brag about.

Mumbai Police Real Suspense Thriller

Antony Moses IPS (Prithviraj) is shattered when his best friend Aryan John Jacob IPS (Jayasurya) is shot dead while about to receive a gallantry award from the Governor. Entrusted with the case investigation by Farhan Aman IPS (Rahman), the Police Commissioner, Antony is within an arm's reach of the culprit, when he meets with an accident and loses his memory. This is the story of a man, who has to start from the scratch, if he needs to solve the case that he was all set to crack a few days back. Browsing through his haphazard recollections, he unearths one truth after the other, each of which leaves him even more confused. His seemingly irrational decisions leave his team members, especially his assistant Rakhee Menon IPS (Aparna Nair) exasperated.

Anoop Menon - Jayasurya in Hotel California

The story is quite long winding in that the characters are several, and the circumstances that bind them together more than just a few. What is disheartening is that eventually it appears like a jumbled, badly shaken up string of crude skits that has become a groveling mess. The characterization appears flimsy at several points. There is the serial actress for instance (Dhwani), who is all set to bed a millionaire (Shankar), to make a few quick bucks. There is also this rich damsel (Maria Roy) who has had enough with men, and who decides to conceive by paying a fortune for a Bollywood superstar sperm. The best thing about the film are the few genuinely funny moments that are on offer thanks to Noby Marcose and his team. The writing too turns out to be distinctly smart, especially the bit related to terrorism and religion.
