The Gangs Of Wasseypur-2 Full Review

The Gangs Of Wasseypur-2

The film traces the journey of Faizal Khan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) in the crime-infested Wasseypur (obviously)! Wasseypur is not the same old small town of Dhanbad district where power lies in a few hands! Several new faces come to the fore; they want to rule either the town or the district, or both, and revel in supremacy!
The centre of the film nevertheless remains Faizal Khan’s revenge on Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia) for killing his grandfather and father (Manoj Bajpai) and more!
If you are a fan of violent films, Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is going to be a delight for you! Putting the slaughter of GOW to shade, director Anurag Kashyap takes the violence in GOW 2 to an all new level, with a take-no-prisoners-and-spare-none approach to make the faint of heart squirm in their seats. Though the use of coarse language is not new in Bollywood, the awfully cruel and violent killings leave you shocked! The end of the movie is its highlight! Never has such onscreen brutality and murderous mayhem been witnessed in Bollywood, not that the movie buffs didn’t wish to witness such fierce cruelness in Hindi films! However, don’t be mistaken into thinking that Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is solely about violence; the film packs a lot of humour as well! The chemistry between Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi is weirdly awesome and despite them looking completely incompatible physically, you just want to see them together on screen more and more!
Speaking about the performances, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a class act! Regardless of his average looks and bashful demeanour, Nawazuddin makes his presence felt by dint of his talent, by his restrained but searing performance, delivered with sincerity and no frills attached. He is surely earning his stripes in the film industry and it would certainly not be wrong to place him on an equal footing with seasoned actors like Irrfan Khan and Manoj Bajpai.
Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadda, Piyush Mishra, all of them must be praised for their performances! A special mention for Zeishan Quadri here! He portrayed the character of Definite to perfection and you just can’t take your eyes off him when he is on screen!
Director Anurag Kashyap deserves a standing ovation for successfully attempting to make a series like Gangs of Wasseypur! He has introduced a new cinematic idiom to Hindi movies, an idiom where the cool and the crass, the rustic and the refined blend in seamlessly. He’s a director who can, with his unique style of narration and storytelling, make even the killing look beautiful. No wonder that both the connoisseurs and masses love his brand of cinema. It’s the art that holds its place without kowtowing to commercial constraints, and yet makes money. Kudos!
Both GOW and GOW 2 would not have been as slick and cool if not for the compositions of Sneha Khanwalkar, the music director of both the films. We have no hitch in asserting that each and every song in the album of the Gangs of Wasseypur series is impressive!
Some exceptional performances, laudable direction, and exciting music, Gangs of Wasseypur 2 ends the saga on a high and gives a memorable trip to the cinema lovers! We give it 4 out of 5 stars and hope that Anurag Kashyap gives us more such movies!
